CHOTEAU, MONTANA
Located on the eastern slope of the Rockies half
way between Helena and Glacier Park at the
junction of U.S. 89 and 287. Choteau was fur
trading post originally, named for a fur trader,
and is one of the oldest towns in Montana. Be-
cause the Chinook winds moderate the climate
and melt the snow, the cattle industry started
here. Wheat farming is the other major industry.
