In Lincoln Park, was erected at a cost of $17,000 from the contributions of colored freedmen; the first donation was from Charlotte Scott, a freedwoman of Virginia, her first earnings after emerging from slavery, and the statue was erected at her suggestion. It is twelve feet high and was cast in Munich. The monument was unveiled in 1876 by the late Frederick Douglas
