The Post Office building occupies a prominent site at the juncture of Broadway and Park Row, and is one of the conspicuous structures in the city. It has a frontage of 279 feet on the north end, narrowing to 144 feet on the south, the architecture being a mixture of Dotic and Renaissance. It is built of light granite at a cost of between six and seven million dollars, and was first occupied August 25th, 1895. The Post Office has 16 branches and 210 sales stations, receives 1, 521 mails a day, and dispatches even more, giving employment to 4,000 persons
