THE LIFEBOAT AT WORK.
By Appointment.
The Cabin-Boy First. A lifeboat always endeavours to
make a wreck on the lee or sheltered side of a vessel.
They can perhaps get under the bowsprit or some
projecting spar, and slinging a line over it take the crew
off by its means. It is an invariable rule on the sea that,
in case of wreck, women and children are first rescued
and after them the boys and men, the captain always
being the last to leave his ship.
