Front:
The Umbrella Hat.
"E. R. B.," writing to the HERALD this
morning on women's hats, declares that
there is method in the mania for the um-
brella type in that this hat enables the
wearer to hear all that is going on about
her.
This letter places "E. R. B." in the
front rank of discoverers.
Before him
no one saw method in styles. But had he
gone further he would have seen that the
large hat is valuable as a disseminator
as well as a collector of news and views.
As sounding boards the wide rims are a
noisy success.
METHOD IN MADNESS.
To THE EDITOR OF THE HERALD:-
Apparently 1t is pure madness for Women
to cling so tenaciously to that horrible
monstrosity, the umbrella hat. Howeven,
their mania possesses this method:-
Like an elephant's ears, the great fiap-
ping brims catch/ even the faintest and re-
motest sounds, thus enabling the wearere
to listen to all nearby private conversa-
tions.
So insatiable curiosity is satisfled.
