HALEAKALA CRATER ... Known as the "House of the Sun," this crater, with its many-hued cinder cones and rare Silversword plant is located in the heart of 10,023-foot Mount Haleakala, the world's largest dormant volcano. Both crater and summit are part of Haleakala National Park and are easily reached from sea-level by automobile. Here, also, may be seen the rare phenomenon known as the "Spectre of the Brocken." ハレアカラ旧火口・・・・・・“太陽の家”とよばれるこの火口は多彩な火口丘群と珍しい銀草で知られているが、標高3,341m 、世界 最大の規模をもつ死火山、ハレアカラ山頂の中央にあり、火口と最高峰はハレアカラ国立公園の一部で、車で容易に登ることが できる。又こうでは一定の大気の状況の下で“ブロッケンの妖怪”とよばれる現象がみられる。火口の端に立つと火口を距てた 向側の雲の中の虹の中に自分の影がみえるものである。 Maui Photo Service, Box 1088, Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii 96793 Photo by Walt Byers (808) 877-3591 M-107
