From Newsboy to State Senator
ALPH C. CLYDE, candidate for the Republican nomin-
ation for State Senator. His number on the ballot is
41
A number of years ago Ralph C. Clyde was a newsboy and by energy
and grit has worked his way up to his present position as advertising manager of
a number of well known publications. He has always taken a deep interest in
reform measures and was founder of the "NEWSBOYS CALAMITY HOWLER"
the name of which publication being afterwards changed to "THE COMMONER"
and in which he always advocated the Employers Liability Law, Initiative and
Referendum, Imperative Mandate and other well known measures which at that
time were taken with very little seriousness but are today issues of the utmost
importance with the great common people.
Mr. Clyde has been a resident of Portland for the past seventeen years and
has served as press representative at the legislature for several sessions where
he was instrumental in exposing class legislation therefore is familiar with and
qualified to fill the position he is a candidate for.
The "Vested Interests" are especially anxious to secure his defeat at the
primaries, for they know in the State Senate he will be a thorn in their side.
They will not hesitate to slander his name and character. Pay no attention to
such rubbish. He is one man they cannot muzzle and they know it.
Mr. Clyde is making a single handed fight-his principles are known, if you
approve of them vote for him.
There are to be seventeen legislative candidates nominated at the coming primar-
ies-twelve representatives and five senators-see that one of your seventeen votes
is cast for RALPH C. CLYDE.

I am thankful that the sun and moon are both hung
up so high,
That no rich robber's hand can reach and pull them
from the sky.
If it were not so. I am very sure. some Corporation
Knight
Would legislate to pull them down and use gas or
electric light."
