E. 11 returning from the
Dardanelles.
Here is seen the British submarine, E. 11,
returning after an exciting experience in the Sea
of Marmora. In the face of great danger, the
Commander succeeded in destroying one large
Turkish gun-boat, two transports, one ammunition
ship, and three storesheds, and drove one store-
ship ashore. When safely past the most difficult
part of the homeward journey, the submarine
returned to torpedo a Turkish transport.
Lieutenant-Commander M. E. Nasmith, R.N.,
was awarded the V.C., and the crew the D.S.
Medal.
