Lord Fisher, First Sea Lord of the Admiralty.
Lord Fisher has been called "the Kitchener of
the Navy," and "the Father of the Dreadnought,"
for these floating fortresses date from his reign as
First Sea Lord. That he resumes office at the age
of 73 during a great national crisis recalls his
war motto, "Hit first, hit hard, hit everywhere."
He was born in Ceylon, 25th January, 1841, his
father a captain in the 78th Highlanders, his
mother a Londoner. He joined the Navy at 13
under the last of Nelson's captains, thus handing
on the light of naval glory to shine as bright as
ever in fights more wonderful than Nelson's
wildest dreams.
