Main Entrance Missouri State Penitentiary
Additional Details:
This institution, built on a rocky promontory abutting the Missouri River, is one of the largest prisons within a single enclosure in the United States. Grey stone walls, 20 feet high, surround 38 1/2 of the 80 acres comprising the site. A $3,500,000 building program completed in 1939 greatly enlarged and modernized the institution. |
