The Detroit News Building, including the paper warehouse, occupies a full city block. Founded in 1873 by James Edmund Scripps. The Detroit News has become one of the foremost newspapers in America, and occupies the largest as well as the most completely and modernly equipped newspaper manufactory in the world. It now occupies a full city block, 300 by 280 feet, the plant including the main building, vast paper warehouse and garage. The institutional character of the newspaper is expressed in its architecture.
