Founded in 1873 by James Edmund Scripps.
The Detroit News has become one of the fore-
most newspapers in America, and occupies the
largest well as the
most completely and
modernly equipped newspaper manufactory in the
world. It now occupies a full city block, 300
by 280 feet, the plant including the main build-
ing vast paper warehouse and garage. The in-
stitutional character of the newspaper is ex-
pressed in its architecture.
