OFFICIAL SOUVENIR
MERMAIDS-This float depicts a scene at the
bottom of the ocean, the home of the Mermaids which
the sailormen's legends have always described as beau-
tiful creatures, with the bodies of women and the tails
of fish, who lure sailors with them to the bottom of the
sea and to their destruction. The artist has depicted the
Mermaids disporting themselves on coral reefs surround-
ed by fish and other inhabitants of the deep, and by
seaweed and other plants of the sea.
