The New Hampshire State Capitol is located in
Concord, a city rich in historic associations from the time
of the Revolution-the State being one of the original
thirteen colonies. New Hampshire has an area of 9,305
square miles and is known as the "Granite State," from the
prevalence of this rock within its borders. The name New
Hampshire was derived from the original patentee, who
was governor of Portsmouth in Hampshire, England.
