THIRD HOUSE-MONTAUK, LONG ISLAND, N. Y. Built
1806. The original Ranch House was built in 1747 as a
shelter for herdsmen and travelers on Montauk. Practi-
cally the original lines of the old building have been
preserved. Montauk for many years was the greatest
name in the cattle industry of America. Thousands of
cattle grazed the hills, keeping everything trimmed to
the ground so that not a bush could be seen on the
highlands. It is now known as "Deep Hollow Ranch."
