HE Hydro-Electric Plant on the Susque-
hanna River at Conowingo, Maryland,
which is part of the Philadelphia Electric
Company System, is one of the largest
water-power developments in the United
States. The dam, almost a mile across and
surmounted by a highway bridge 20 feet
wide, forms a lake fourteen miles long. The
initial installation is 378,000 H. P. which will
eventually be increased to 594,000 H. P.
A 220,000 volt transmission line carries
current to Philadelphia. Work was started
March 8,1926, and the first units were put
