ILLINOIS CENTRAL
are brought to these mammoth
Paducah shops for rebuilding, re-
modeling and repairing. The huge plant begun
in 1925 and covering 110 acres when com-
pleted cost $8,500,000, and is Paducah's largest
single industry. There are 16 miles of rail-
road track within the shop and premises, 15
cranes, some large enough to lift a giant loco-
motive like a toy, 24 oil storage tanks with a
capacity of 192,000 gallons and machine tools
varying from tiny presses to monsters weigh-
ing 2100 tons.
