The opening act in the Hi-Top Lounge who played the ukulele and sang HAWAIIAN songs, Harriet Purdy, is and was my nana, my grandmother on my mom’s side of my family. Also known locally as a waterwoman or one who is strong and knowledgeable in the ocean. A high diver on the piers in New Jersey and cannon shot too boot! This was in her younger years while earning a living away from Hawaii. Harriet married DC businessman Charles Cromwell Coley. I’m named after him. My late grandfather was a good man.
