THE STAR OF INDIA, one of the first
iron ships, built in 1863, formerly the full rigged
ship Euterpe (meaning goddess of wind musical
instruments), has weathered many thrilling experi-
ences in the slave trade, piracy, storm and catas-
trophe. This romantic old hull is now owned by
the zoological society of San Diego, to be used as
an aquarium.
