CARAVAN ON THE MARCH. The Commissariat of
the Roosevelt expedition is in charge of Mr. R. J. Cun-
ninghame, who has been guide for Sir Harry Johnston,
the famous British administrator, and also for the Field
Columbian Exposition. He purchased the outfit, the
guns being of American make, the tents and equipment
being British. This was borne by 50 or 60 bearers.
The rifles include 303 bore Mann ichers for lions and
deer, and 400-500 bore Cordite rifles for rhinos and
hippos.
These latter have a cartridge four and one-
half to five inches long.
