Wilmington is the County Seat of New
Castle County. Delaware. In 1638, the first
Swedish Expedition to the new world landed
at a point on the Christiana River called the
"Rocks" where they established a colony and
built Fort Christiana. In 1655 the Dutch took
Fort Christiana and later on in 1664 the
English took control of the colony and under
the rule of William Penn, it acquired the
Quaker Character which it has never lost.
The town of Wilmington was laid out in 1731
and grew rapidly; it is now the largest city
in Delaware.
