This old skeleton of a sperm whale recalls
the days of the 1850's when there were 500
whaling vessels in the Pacific, and Monterey
bay was well known to the whale hunters
and the beach white with whale bones. At
the Old Whaling Station (now
privately
owned)
part of the walk and patio is paved
with whale vertebrae.
