THE CHICAGO BEACH HOTEL, known as the Gardiner
General Hospital and a landmark on Chicago's South side
for a half century, has joined the Army Air Forces for the
duration of the war. It is now a station hospital for the
Army Air Forces Technical Training Command's Chicago
Schools, Brig. Gen. Arnold N. Krogstad, commanding. Long
the center of South Shore activities and once nearly as
famous as Niagara Falls as a mecca for honeymooners, the
600 room hotel now provides hospitalization facilities for
students training as radio operator-mechanics at the Army
Air Forces Technical School in Chicago.
