THE FIRST ATOMIC SUBMARINE, GROTON, CONN. is seen
in this composite photograph of the actual model of the first
nuclear powered submarine posed against the appropriate back-
ground of the Electric Boat Division, General Dynamics Corp.,
builders of the world's first such craft. The model was presented
to then President Harry S. Truman on the occasion of the laying
of the keel plate at Groton on June 14, 1952. While specific
information is an official secret, it is believed that the Nautilus will
far surpass conventional submarines both in speed and range.
