This aret abounds in historical interest. In 1536 a white
man first saw the country when Cabeza de Vaca and his
companions passed this way, 1598 saw Juan de Onate
bring a band of colonists through here. The consummation
of the Gadsden Purchase was celebrated in La Mesilia in
1854. The middle of the 19th Century saw both the Butter-
field and the Old Chisholm Trail pass thru here. Come and
