THE SPARTAN
Operating between Ludington, Mich. and Milwaukee,
Manitowoc, and Kewaunee, Wis., the SPARTAN, and its
sister ship the S. S. SPARTAN, are the C & O's newest
and the world's largest and speediest trainferries. The
SPARTAN is 410 feet long, with a 59-foot beam.
cruises at 18 mph and can carry 32 freight cars plus
automobiles and a top load of 537 passengers.
