Photo was taken 10-24-1977 at University Southern California McClintock Building by the late Zeke Allen then working for the Southern Calfornia Rapid Transit District.
Bus is General Motors model TD-4506 serial 789 of 1200 built 1945-46 delivered in gray primier to Los Angeles Transit Lines (LATL) c. June-July1946, LATL maintenance personnel chalking #6339 on it for accounting purposes till could be painted in LATL chrome yellow, sage green & egg shell white "fruit salid" colors days or weeks later.
This bus along with 199 other TD-4506s delivered to LATL & Pacific Electric Railway (PERy) 1945-46 operated on western LATL & PERy lines besides LATL Line 11 Beverly-Adams notably LATL 82 Wilshire Boulevard & 85 Crenshaw-Vine-La Brea till March 3, 1958 when bought by Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority (LAMTA) they running them on these & other lines into the early 1960s till all were sold off. Sometime in 1964 LAMTA sold #6339 to Gibson Lines Sacramento as their #6502 then Sacramento Transit Authority c. May 15, 1967 as their #5510 then Sacramento Regional Transit (RT) April 1, 1973, RT selling it to me during July 1976.
By September 1977 I'd restored it back as #6339 but on 10-21-1979 sold it to the late Joe Corbin of West Hollywood, CA for $1.The bloody thing was a financial albatross that along with my no longer being interesred in transit vehicle preservation by then hastened ridding myself of it ASAP. The current owner of #6339 says its sits inoperable in Fontana, CA, if still exists in 2023 likely is in very poor condition prospects of it ever running again aren't good alas!
TD-4506 serial 001 by the way went to Baltimore Transit Company as #1096 in 1945, sold to Baltimore Streetcar Museum (BSM) in 1960s, very likely inoperable if BSM still has it in 2023.
