Born October 27, 1858, "Teddy" Roosevelt, Har-
vard Graduate, was early interested in ranching,
politics and in writing picturesque historical nar-
ratives.
In 1898, he resigned from politics to help or-
ganize a volunteer regiment called the "Rough
Riders."
Reluctantly accepting the Vice-Presidency in
1900, he became President after McKinley's assas-
sination September 14, 1901, serving 2 terms of
office. He died at Oyster Bay, January 6, 1919, at
the age of 61.
