WILLIAM AND MARY COLLEGE,
WILLIAMSBURG, VA. Was founded in 1693, under a
Charter granted by King William and Queen Mary of
England. Next to Harvard, it is the oldest University
in America, and in colonial times was of great impor-
tance. It has sent out for their work in the world many
of our greatest men, amongst them being fifteen senators,
seventeen governors, four signers of the Declaration of
Independence, seven Cabinet officers, one Chief Justice
and three Presidents of the United States.
