ommanders of the American brig "Enterprise" and
the British brig"Boxer," killed in the action oft Fortland
September 5, 1818. They rest side by side in the old Eastern
Cemetery, Portiand. Longfellow has sung of "The dead cap-
tains as they lay in their graves o'erlooking the tranquil bay,
where they in battle died." 152.
