Post Office. The Post Office building occupies a
prominent site at the juncture of Broadwayland Park Row,
and is one of the conspicuous structures in the city. It has
a frontage of 279 feet on the north end, narrowing to 144 feet
on the south, the architecture being a mixture of Doric and
Renaissance. It is built of light granite at a cost of between
six and seven million dollars, and was first occupied August
25th, 1875. The Post Office has 36 branches and 210 sub-
stations, receives 1,521. mails a day, and dispatches even
more, giving employment to 4,000 persons.
