INTERIOR OF ST. PATRICK'S CATHEDRAL,
NEW YORK. St. Patrick's Cathedral is the head of the
great Archdiocese of New York. It was projected by Archbishop
Hughes in 1850. The corner stone was laid in 1858, and the
church dedicated by Cardinal McClosky in 1879. It is 322 feet
long and 120 feet broad, and the height of the nave is 100 feet.
The twin spires are 328 feet high, and the rose window is 26
feet in diameter. The Cathedral cost about $3,500,000.
