Originally called 'Grandpa' when Billy Marsh and Harry Stimler staked out the first vlain in 1902, the name was soon changed when jewlery rock ran $50 to $100 per pound. One carload of 47 tons brought $574,958.00. There was another boom in 1906 when los sold as high as $45,000.00 Population reached 30,000. Mining production $11,000,000.00 in 1910. Goldfield's turbulent career saw the Gans-Nelson prize fight. Nat Goodwin. Edna Goodrich on the stage. Outrageous highgrading by miners with resulting strikes and disorders requiring troops and state police. Goldfield is said to have been 'the most exciting camp of all time'
