The State Capitol of Arkansas is in Little Rock, the
latter accounted the metropolis of the State. Arkansas,
which was admitted to the Union in 1836, has an area of
53.850 square miles, and is sometimes known as the "Bear
State"; its floral emblem is the apple blossom. Arkansas
derived its name from the Arkansas River and was so
called in 1819.
