Tantallon Castle. The date of building and the
builder's name of this old sea-fortress of the Douglasses
are both alike unknown. It belonged to the Earls of
Angus at the accession of Robert II, was frequently
besieged and always held to be impregnable, but was at
last taken by the Covenanters in 1637, and is now a
dismantled and decaying ruin.
