Although Tucumcari was born with the railroad
in 1901, Tucumcari Lake was the watering
place for prehistoric animals and evidence is
found that cavemen, Spanish Conquistadors,
pioneers, outlaws, along with the trail riders of
the Goodnight, Chisholm, and Comanchero
trails which crossed here. Tucumcari is the cent-
er of the oldest civilization and culture in
America, where super highways now rush, pre-
historic man once hunted.
