Connecting Storm king highway with the roads on the east shore of the Hudson in the famous highlands. This view looks north. World-famed Storm King Highway. Most impressive in construction; carved from the perpendicular granite face of Storm King Mountain in the Highlands, at an elevation of more than 400 feet above the most beautiful portion of the Hudson River. Washington's patriotic soldiers were compelled to make a most difficult journey across this mountain, many day's march, to reach West Point. This highway is the most expensive piece of road construction in the world. Not only for its scenery is it noted, it also effects a saving of miles of travel. |
