Additional Details:
The year following her baptism, Pocahontas was married to John Rolfe, a worthy and highly respected young Englishman, in Jamestown Church, April, 1613. King Powhatan, her father, who would never risk placing himself in the power of the English, declined to attend, but gave his consent and sent his blessing and presents by an uncle and two brothers of the bride, who attended the ceremony. The marriage proved to be a most happy one, and was directly responsible for the friendly relations which, from that time to the death of Powhattan in 1618, existed between the colony and the Indians
