GUNS AND GUNNERS OF THE BATTLESHIP
"KENTUCKY". There is no ship in the Navy upon
which the giant guns appear to better advantage than on the
flagship "Kentucky". This impressiveness is due to what is
known as the superimposed turrets a distinctly Yankee idea
to be found in no other ships. By this plan the turrets, or cir-
cular steel cases, protecting the 13-inch guns are capped by
other and smaller turrets each containing two of the formidable
8-inch guns.
