BALANCED AND STEAMBOAT ROCKS
Situated four miles northwest of Colorado
Springs is the Garden of the Gods, recently
added to the city's park system. Of all the
unique formations to be found within its portals,
none is better known than the famous Balanced
Rock. Situated close to the exit, it has for its
neighbor Steamboat Rock, a gigantic slab of red
sandstone, shaped like the hull of a ship. In the
distance is to be seen Pike's Peak, rising to an
altitude of 14,147 feet.
