Belle Isle Park contains about 700 acres and has cost Detroit, including bridge leading to it about $2,000,000. It has beautiful lawns and Floral displays, also many miles of driveways and canals. It has a Zoo, Horticultural Building and Aquarium. Refreshments are served at both Casino and Pavillion. It was bought from the Chippewa and Ottawa Indians for eight Barrels of rum, three rolls of tobacco, six pounds of vermillion and a belt of wampun, by Lieutenant McDougall in 1769. In 1879, 110 years afterward it was sold to Detroit for $200,000
