The Ohio-Erie Canal was begun on JIM4,
1825. When completed, it stretched 309 miles
from Cleveland on Lake Erie to Portsmouth
on the Ohio River. To traverse the summit
near Akron, a height of 390 feet above Lake
Erie, 152 locks were required. Lock 4 at Ca-
nal Fulton is the 4th lock south of the sum
mit.

St. Helena II is authentically designed to re-
present a typical freight barge. She is 60 feet
on the keel and 13 feet wide, weighing 22
tons and drawing 18" of water. St. Helena II
carries 60 passengers from Canal Fulton to
Lock 4 and return, a total trip of two miles.
