AKRON City of Opportunity
Akron's growth falls into five periods, fol.
lowing successive stages of transportation-
canoe, canal boat, railroad, motor transport
and air-way. The rise of each new type of
trade route opened the way to Akron's greater
development.
Akron ranks second in Ohio and eleventh
in the United States in industrial payrolls
and value of manufactured products. It is
the largest rubber manufacturing center in
the world. Akron has a Metropolitan Park
system of over 2,000 acres, city parks, Muni-
cipal University and a fine public school
system.
