VINCENNES, Ind. Knox County court house
erected in 1873 at a cost of more than
claimed to be first public building erected
in U. S. as a soldiers' memorial. Architecture
exceptional. In addition to several beautiful
tablets there is one in marble 21 feet high i
of George Rogers Clark. The sculpturing is
by Andrew Barrot of Carrara, Italy. It is
carved from one piece of stone and weighs
four tons. Nearby stands the $50,000 soldiers
monument erected in 1914.
