Princeton is located about 11 miles north of
Trenton. The first State Legislature met here
in 1776, the next year it was the site of the
Battle of Princeton, in which battle Washington
surprised and defeated a British force. In 1783
the Continental Congress met here after they
were driven from Philadelphia by mutinous
soldiers, and while here they received the
news of the signing of the treaty of peace
with Great Britain.
