THEODORE ROOSEVELT is the youngest man who
ever served as Chief Magistrate of the U. S., being only 43
years old when he was inaugurated.
He was born in New
York City, his father being a well-known merchant, of the
metropolis and his mother a member of a prominent Georgia
family. After his graduation from Harvard College, he devoted
almost his entire time to the public service, with the exception
of a few years spent in the West to regain his health.
