ABRAHAM
LINCOLN
Back:
Portraits of Abraham Lincoln.
On the reverse side are shown five por-
traits of Abraham Lincoln, taken at dif-
ferent periods of his life. The first
portrait is after a sketch made from a
daguerreotype taken in 1846 and is rec-
ognized as the earliest portrait of Lin-
coln. The second portrait was taken at
the time of his famous debate with Doug-
las in 1858. The third portrait of 1860
was taken shortly before he became Presi-
dent. The next in order was taken about
1861, shortly after Lincoln grew a beard.
The portrait occupying the center of the
group was taken about two months before
his assassination at Ford's Theater, Wash-
ington, D.C., April 14, 1865.
