This wharf was built by Simon
Forrester, one of Salem's great merchants, in
1796. It is presently under lease to the Navy.
The submarine is open to the public. In the
background are the Custom House - 1819, the
Hawkes House - 1801, the Derby House - 1762,
the Rum Shop circa 1815. Extending to the
right is Derby Wharf, begun 1762, completed
1809.
