Donaldson's Hospital is the finest building of its kind
in Scotland. It is a quadrangular structure, Tudor in
style. The founder was a printer named James Donald-
son, who in 1851 left £240,000 for the education and
maintenance of 200 poor boys and girls, a large portion
of whom are deaf and dumb. The building cost £100,000,
and was erected after designs by Mr. W. H. Playfair.
