CARTE POSTALE.
The Jew's House, Lincoln. This rel'c of early
Norman architecture is situated in the Strait. It was in-
habited by Beleset, of Wallingford, a rich Jewess, who was
hanged in 1290 on a charge of debasing the King's coin and
her house confiscated. A stone house in early times was the
sign of opulence, and the Jews from their wealth and also for
security were often possessors of houses similar to the one
depicted.
