Cape Town and Table Mountain. The view shows
the town nestled behind its mighty guardian. Seen at early
morning from ship-deck, it forms a most picturesque and
striking picture, which indelibly fixes itself on the minds
of all those who look upon South Africa for the first time.
During certain seasons of the year the town is subject to
great wind storms, known as "South-easters," whose
advent is heralded by a white cloud, locally termed the
"Table Cloth," making its appearance along the ridge of
the mountains.
